Guitar Lesson Aurora Rick Washbrook Says Play In The Style Of B.B King First To Understand The Blues
The king of the Blues B.B. King is the man that knows where to put the notes, and make you feel good inside.
There is no other way to say it. Speak simple and direct, play simple and direct. Speak the truth, play the truth.
Something doesn't have to be said complicated with big words to explain what you’re saying, B.B. King has the gift of expressing.
My name is Rick Washbrook. I teach guitar in Aurora. I love all styles, rock, blues, jazz, and songwriter lessons. I have some great methods to share with you. 38 years of experience.
When B.B. King plays you hear him and you start taping your foot and, then hum along, and before you know it you are saying I could write that. He makes it look so easy, but not all of us can do that. It is the simplicity that reaches the hearts of man. It is not just simplicity but its tradition he speaks on the guitar with his choice of slow hand notes at a certain time, and with a certain tone.
I truly believe blues players like B.B. King are the pearly gates to the entrance of learning to play Blues and for certain jazz. His phrasing is what he is a master at.
B.B. King Breaths with the music and his heart is pumping in the groove and playing his beautiful blues guitar licks. You Got To Start To Play In The Style Of B.B King First To Understand The Blues.
I have a tip for you. Play a few notes from the blues scale and make it sound like a question. It doesn't have to be a lot of notes. The second part you play will be the answer to resolve.
The other tip I would like to share is play the notes on the beat, and then as your playing play the notes a little behind the beat kinda' lazy Then play the notes ahead of the beat like your running down a hill. Return to the notes on the beat. It will help you play fewer notes and find your expression. It really works. I came up with this idea to help my students. Keep in mind don't use too many notes.
"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." - B. B. King quote
“We all have idols. Play like anyone you care about but try to be yourself while you're doing so.” - B. B. King quote
“I don't think anybody steals anything; all of us borrow.” – B. B. King quote
Good luck progressing guitar players. There is so much to learn, but you know play what you learn like a pro. Don't ever slack off, or feel negative. Keep positive. Be who you are.
